The kettlebell clean is the easiest and safest way to bring the bell from the floor to rack position. It is a precursor to the squat, press, windmill, and other exercises. Start as you would for a single arm swing, in the standard “hike” position. Swing the bell back, but as the kettlebell swings forward, be sure to pin the elbow to the side and shorten the arc. As the kettlebell passes the hip, snap it into rack position in the crook of your arm. To return the bell to the ground, simply reverse the movement.
